Spain won 1-0 at Ukraine to relegate their opponents to a spot in the playoffs.

Mario Gaspar scored for Spain in the 22nd minute by heading a Thiago Alcantara cross from the touchline into an open net.

Cesc Fabregas later had a penalty saved with a sprawling dive by Ukraine keeper Andriy Pyatov, but the Euro 2012 champions held on to win.

Slovakia secured their spot at Euro 2016 after their 4-2 win at Luxembourg left them in second place.

Slovakia’s first three goals came in a six-minute span in the first half, with Marek Hamsik, Adam Nemec and Robert Mak all finding the net.

Luxembourg fought back in the second half with a goal from Mario Mutsch and a Lars Krogh Gerson penalty, but a late second goal from Hamsik put the game away.

Depending on other results, a win could have put Ukraine through to the finals as the best third-place team in qualifying.

Belarus could not find a breakthrough at home against Macedonia as they ended qualifying with a goalless draw.

Group E

Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were among the scorers as England completed a 100% Euro 2016 qualifying record with a 3-0 win in Lithuania.

England made it a perfect 10 with a beating in the Baltic, but their record-breaking achievement was marred by fighting between the visiting fans and their Lithuanian counterparts.

England’s third goal came from an own goal from Lithuania stopper Giedrius Arlauskis.

It is the first time England have qualified for a major tournament in this format with a 100% record

The Lithuanians had not sold out the 5,500-seater stadium so tickets went on sale earlier this week and the England fans who travelled to the Baltic nation clearly snapped them up. That meant Lithuanians and English supporters mixed in the same stand and that spelled trouble.

The Lithuanian supporters booed God Save The Queen, before the England fans started singing anti-IRA songs.

Slovenia secured their playoff spot with a 2-0 win at San Marino.

The minnows made Slovenia wait for their opener, but second-half goals from Bostjan Cesar and Nejc Pecnik eventually denied San Marino their second draw of the campaign.

Estonia’s slim hopes of qualifying ended with a 1-0 defeat to already-qualified Switzerland.

Ragnar Klavan’s own goal in stoppage time provided Switzerland with game’s only scoring.

Group G

Russia have booked their place at the 2016 European Championship after a 2-0 victory over Montenegro in Moscow.

Russia, who terminated coach Fabio Capello’s contract in July, won their final four qualifiers to secure second spot in Group G behind Austria.

Oleg Kuzmin got behind the defence to angle home a shot from Igor Denisov’s lofted pass over the defence to break the deadlock on 33 minutes, and Aleksandr Kokorin then converted a penalty to make it 2-0 by the break.

Sweden had to settle for a place in the playoff after they defeated Moldova 2-0 in Gothenburg.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring on 24 minutes when he went around keeper Ilie Cebanu before slotting home after collecting a long pass.

Erkan Zengin doubled their advantage early in the second half with a perfect chip from outside the area after Cebanu’s headed clearance left him stranded.

Moldova had a late goal chalked off as Sweden held on for the three points.

Austria, who qualified last month, rounded off their campaign with a 3-0 win at home to Liechtenstein.

Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring before Marc Janko added a brace with two goals in three minutes early in the second half.
