Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been crowned African Footballer of the Year over Manchester City’s Yaya Toure on Thursday night.
The result ends a streak of four consecutive awards from the Confederation of African Football for the Ivorian Toure, who had won every year since 2011.
Aubameyang, who finished second to Toure a year ago, earned 143 points this time, barely edging runner-up Toure’s 136 in CAF’s rankings.
Swansea’s Ghanaian midfielder Andre Ayew finished third with 112 points.
Aubameyang becomes the first from his country, Gabon, to win the prize.
He has scored 24 goals in 23 games in all competitions this season for Dortmund. He also scored 16 Bundesliga goals in the previous campaign.
