  • Schalke 04 3 – 0 Augsburg

Three first-half goals earned Schalke a much-needed 3-0 victory over fellow Bundesliga strugglers Augsburg to ease their fears of relegation.

Guido Burgstaller put the hosts in front when he stabbed home from close range four minutes in after the visitors failed to deal with an inswinging corner from Max Meyer.

The Austrian international grabbed his second just before the half-hour mark when he converted Maxim Choupo-Moting’s low cross from six yards to double Schalke’s lead.

Augsburg had a chance to reduce the arrears from the penalty spot when Raul Bobadilla was brought down by Benedikt Howedes in the area but Paul Verhaegh’s spot-kick was denied by a great Ralf Fahrmann save.

Daniel Caligiuri sealed the win before the break when he nodded in Sead Kolasinac’s far post cross to leapfrog their opponents into 13th in the table.

  • Hamburger SV 2 – 1 Borussia Moenchengladbach

Relegation-threatened Hamburg secured back-to-back wins for only the third time this season as they came from behind to earn a vital 2-1 success against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Andreas Christensen put the visitors in front after 23 minutes when he powered home Oscar Wendt’s free-kick with a fine header from 12 yards.

That advantage only lasted 13 minutes as Filip Kostic rose highest to head Dennis Diekmeier’s right wing cross in off the far post to level things up.

But American striker Bobby Wood fired in the winner 10 minutes from time as Hamburg moved level on points with Wolsfburg and Werder Bremen but remain in the drop zone on goal difference.
