Europa League: Semi-finals first leg – Chelsea loanee Bertrand Traore scores  twice as Ajax beat Lyon

Ajax 41 Lyon

Ajax moved to the brink of a first European final in 21 years by defeating Lyon 4 – 1 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.

Bertrand Traore scored twice to help Ajax acheive this feat.

The on-loan Chelsea forward opened the scoring on 25 minutes before setting up teenage striker Kasper Dolberg for a second as a youthful Ajax side blew away their French opponents in the first half.

Amin Younes added a third just after half-time and Traore rounded off the scoring for the hosts moments after Mathieu Valbuena had grabbed Lyon’s away goal on 66 minutes.

Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech’s assist for Traore’s second goal made the attacking midfielder the first player in Europa League history to assist three goals in a semi-final or final.

Lyon, who have never played in a major European final, will now need to overturn a three-goal deficit in the second leg on 11 May if they are to face either Manchester United or Celta Vigo in the final in Stockholm 13 days later.
