Ligue 1 results – Evra’s first Marseille goal help defeat Balotelli’s Nice; Lyon on course for Europe after Nantes victory

Rennes 1 – 0 Montpellier

Lyon 3 – 2 Nantes

Marseille 2 – 1 Nice

  • Marseille 2 – 1 Nice

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra headed the winner as Marseille all but ended Nice’s hopes of a top-two finish in Ligue 1.

The 35-year-old scored his first goal for the club since joining from  Juventusin January.

Bafetimbi Gomis, on loan from Swansea City, headed the hosts in front before Mario Balotelli equalised with his 15th league goal of the season.

Victory moves Marseille up to fifth in the table with two games remaining.

Nice led Ligue 1 earlier in the season but, with two games left and six points behind second-placed Paris St-Germain, they look likely to finish third.

  • Lyon 3 – 2 Nantes

Lyon remain firmly in pole position to take fourth, though, after a 3-2 win over Nantes.

Eighth-placed Nantes took the lead in the 19th minute through Valentin Rongier and it stayed that way until the 65th minute when Nabil Fekir scored a penalty, picking himself up after a foul by Koffi Djidji.

Five minutes later Lyon took the lead through a Cornet header only for Guillaume Gillet to equalise in the 75th minute. But Cornet struck again with a fourth goal in 15 minutes to claim the points for Lyon.

After Bordeaux’sdraw withSt Etienne on Friday, Lyon are now six points clear of their rivals with only two games to play, while they also boast a far superior goal difference.

  • Rennes 1 – 0 Montpellier

Montpellier’s dismal end to the season continued as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at mid-table Rennes.

Ndombe Mubele scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute for the hosts, who were smarting from last week’s defeat to bottom clubBastia.

The result means Jean-Louis Gasset’s men are still not mathematically certain of avoiding relegation, although an improbable series of results would need to go against them.

Montpellier meet Lyon at home next Sunday before finishing their campaign with a trip to Angers the following week.
