Tom Cairney has committed his future to Fulham by signing a one-year extension to his contract.
It means the midfielder, 26, is under contract at Craven Cottage until 2021 and the club have an option to further extend the deal by another year.
The Scotland player was signed from Blackburn in 2015 and has been voted Fulham’s player of the year twice in a row, and in March was named the EFL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.
Rafael Benitez, the Magpies boss, is desperate to strengthen his squad in order to consolidate their status as one of the 20 best teams in English football and saw a £20m bid for the Scottish international recently turned down.
“He [Rafa Benitez] asked for him and they offered £20m, but we didn’t let him go,” Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic said.
“He’s not for Newcastle, there is no business there. He fits in at Fulham.”
