Diego Costa regrets way in which he left Chelsea after sealing Atletico move

Diego Costa regrets the manner of his Chelsea exit and admits to having “special affection” for people at the club.

The 28-year-old striker finally agreed a move back to Atletico Madrid earlier this week and arrived in the Spanish capital on Friday, ending weeks of exile in Brazil.

Costa won two Premier League titles in his three seasons at Stamford Bridge, but his stay ended in acrimony as he refused to return to the club after being informed by text message that he was not in Antonio Conte’s plans.

But Costa will not let his final few months sour his time at the club.

“I didn’t want it to unfold as it did,” the Spain international told journalists at Madrid airport, as reported by Marca.
“I have a special affection for the people at Chelsea.
“I don’t want to have an ungrateful attitude towards Chelsea, because I was also very happy there and played in a great team.”
Costa will look to restart his career in familiar surroundings as he is back at the club he served with distinction between 2010 and 2014.

Although he will not be able to play until January due to Atletico’s transfer embargo, Costa is raring to go at a place he calls home.

“Atletico Madrid is my home and here I am,” he added.
“I am very happy. [The negotiations] went on too long, but there was a happy ending in the end.
“Now I’m waiting to see my team-mates and to train.
“I am not as unfit as some have been saying.
“There won’t be a lack of determination on my part and I’ll give my best, as has always been the case.”

Chelsea agree terms with Atletico Madrid for sale of Diego Costa

Chelsea have agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of striker Diego Costa back to the Spanish club.

Atletico will pay more than £50m for the Spain international, who will now have a medical in Madrid and discuss personal terms.
Chelsea will not be subsiding his wages after he has signed for Atletico.

A Chelsea statement read:

“Chelsea Football Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa.

“The transfer will be subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical.”

Costa refused to return to Chelsea’s Cobham training base this summer, instead remaining in Brazil in hope that Atletico could strike a deal to bring him back to Madrid.

Atletico failed to push through the move before the transfer deadline, safe in the knowledge that Costa would not be able to play for them until January due to the club’s transfer ban.
Costa has not played for 98 days since he appeared for Spain in a World Cup Qualifier against Macedonia in June.

The two teams play each other next Wednesday in the Champions League.

He scored 58 goals in 120 appearances for the Blues, including 20 in the Premier League last season as Chelsea won the title.

Roy Keane blast want-away Chelsea striker Diego Costa

Former Manchester United man Roy Keane has given a scathing assessment of Chelsea outcast Diego Costa.

“They are better off without him,” said Keane on ITV’s Champions League highlights show. “The guy is obviously big trouble.

“I know he has done well for them, but he looks to me to be a bit of a balloon. Get rid of him. Have players at your club that want to be there.”

“If I was a team-mate of his I’d kick him up and down the training pitch,” said Keane. “Some of the senior players have got to get hold of him. A talented, talented boy, but his attitude is like a spoilt child. He’s just absolutely ridiculous.”

Atletico Madrid president denies talk of signing Diego Costa this week

Diego Costa’s future has been plunged into doubt once again after Atletico Madrid’s president denied his club were planning to sign him any time soon.

Atleti president Enrique Cerezo said:

“If his [Costa’s] family are moving [to Madrid], I do not know. What I know is that Costa is a Chelsea player and until January, there is time to talk to his club and with whoever else.”

When pressed if the player might sign for the club now with the deal set to be finalised at the turn of tje year, Cerezo added: “We are not going to do anything until January.”

Diego Costa hints at exit after trolling Antonio Conte and Chelsea

Diego Costa has appeared to blow any faint chances he had of rekindling his Chelsea career with an Instagram post of him partying in a Atletico Madrid shirt and passing comment on Antonio Conte.

The 28-year Spain striker is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after reportedly being texted by Conte that he is longer wanted at the club.

And any hope of saving his career at the club appears to have gone up in smoke after the player posted a picture on Instagram of him partying in Brazil wearing an Atletico shirt.

To add insult to injury, the volatile centre-forward also threw shade at manager Conte in a reply to Cesc Fabregas’ comment on his live video.

‘Give Conte a hug,’ Costa said.

The post has since been deleted.

Costa has had a fractious relationship with the Chelsea manager since the Italian’s arrival in West London and looked destined to leave in January after his attitude was questioned amid interest from Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian.

Chelsea forward Diego Costa  reveals Manager Antonio  Conte has asked him to leave

Chelsea striker Diego Costa says he has been told by manager Antonio Conte that he is no longer in the club’s plans.

The 28-year-old scored 20 goals in 35 Premier League games to help the Blues win the title but now appears set to leave Stamford Bridge.

“I’m a Chelsea player, but they do not want me there,” Costa said.

“Antonio Conte has told me by message that I do not follow at Chelsea and that’s it. Conte said he did not count on me for next season.”

Speaking after Spain’s 2-2 draw with Colombia on Wednesday, Costa added: “My relationship with the coach has been bad this season. It’s a shame, I’ve already forwarded the message to Chelsea people to decide.

“But it is clear that the coach does not count on me and does not want me there. You have to find a team.”

FA Cup Final – Ramsey grabs the winner as Arsenal beat 10-man Chelsea to seal record 13th FA Cup victory

Arsenal 2 – 1 Chelsea

Arsenal ended a season of frustration and uncertainty with FA Cup glory, denying 10-man Chelsea the double as Arsene Wenger secured his record seventh FA Cup final win, to became the most successful manager in the competition’s history.

Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal the lead in contentious fashion after only four minutes, when referee Antony Taylor overruled his assistant after he had flagged for offside against Aaron Ramsey, — although his handball in the build-up was missed.

In a lively battle between north and west London at Wembley, Chelsea – who trailed 1-0 to Alexis Sanchez’s controversial opener Victor Moses was sent off on 68 minutes for picking up a second yellow card for diving.

However, Diego Costa sensationally levelled for the 10 men on 77 minutes.
Having stumbled home fifth and missed out on Champions League qualification, criticism of the Wenger has reached unprecedented and unpalatable levels.

Arsenal, outstanding throughout, refused to be denied and were back in front inside three minutes when Ramsey, who scored the FA Cup final  winner against Hull City in 2014,did it again with a header from substitute Olivier Giroud’s cross.

Wenger pumped his fists in delight at the final whistle, as a season that has brought so much criticism for the 67-year-old Frenchman, ended in Wembley glory with a record 13th FA Cup win for the Gunners.

With Laurent Koscielny suspended and Gabriel and Shkodran Mustafi missing out through injury, Wenger had to field a makeshift back three of Per Mertesacker, who was making his first start in 13 months, alongside Rob Holding and Nacho Monreal.

A larger than usual security presence welcomed supporters at a time of heightened alert following Monday’s terror attack.

Armed police patrolled Wembley and all in attendance underwent rigorous searches after 22 people were killed and many more injured in the attack at Manchester Arena.

Chelsea did not wear their black armbands in the first half after leaving them inside the jackets they decided against due to the warm weather.

Jurgen Klopp could not inspire Liverpool to victory in his first game at the helm, as they produced a goalless draw with Tottenham.

Klopp, the self-proclaimed ‘Normal One’ left White Hart Lane with what he labelled a ‘normal result’ as his new Liverpool side drew 0-0.

Chelsea ended their run of three games without a victory as Jose Mourinho turned the spotlight onto his Aston Villa counterpart Tim Sherwood with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues went into the game searching for a first win since beating Walsall 4-1 in the Capital One Cup on Sept. 23, and looking to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat to Southampton before the international break.

Costa returned from suspension to score one and force another as the Premier League champions won 2-0 and their fans sang “we are staying up”

Mourinho was the subject of the first managerial vote of confidence of Roman Abramovich’s 12-year ownership following the October 3 loss to Southampton, which left the Blues 16th.

And the Russian billionaire was present as the Villa clash began with the home crowd voicing their support for the self-proclaimed Special One.

Wayne Rooney fired Manchester United to victory with his first goal at Goodison Park in eight years, but his day was tinged with sadness following the death of Howard Kendall.

Rooney ended his 11-month wait for a Premier League away goal on Saturday in United’s 3-0 win at Everton.

Morgan Schneiderlin scored his first United goal after some slack marking at the back post, and the unmarked Ander Herrera nodded in Marcos Rojo’s cross to double the lead.

The goal also saw Rooney draw level with former United striker Andy Cole as the second highest scorer in Premier League history.

Kendall won the league as a player with Everton and then went on to manage the club three times.

In his most successful period in the mid-1980s, Kendall led Everton to two titles, the FA Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey all netted as Arsenal retained second place in the Premier League table with a 3-0 win at Watford.

The Gunners, who had beaten Manchester United before the international break, were made to work hard for their victory following a spirited effort by the well-organised Hornets.

Ultimately, though, the technical superiority of Arsene Wenger’s men proved enough, as in-form Sanchez netted after a breakaway on 62 minutes, with goals from substitute Giroud and Ramsey helping to keep Arsenal only two points behind leaders Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling hit a first-half hat-trick and Wilfried Bony struck twice as Manchester City hammered Bournemouth 5-1 at The Etihad.

City had needed someone to step up in the absence of injured star striker Sergio Aguero and £49million man Sterling duly rose to the challenge.

He and Bony both struck inside the opening 11 minutes and the former Liverpool man added two more after a Glenn Murray reply. Bony wrapped up scoring in the closing minutes.

Late goals from Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet floored 10-man Crystal Palace as West Ham snatched a dramatic 3-1 victory at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles appeared to have held on for a point despite playing the entire second half with 10 men following Dwight Gayle’s brainless red card.

But West Ham’s pressure paid off when Argentinian winger Lanzini rifled home in the 88th minute and Payet put the icing on the cake in injury time.

Carl Jenkinson had put the visitors ahead with his second goal in two matches, but Yohan Cabaye equalised moments later with a twice-taken penalty.

Jamie Vardy scored twice as Leicester came back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with Southampton at St Mary’s.

Goals from Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk had given them a two-goal half-time lead, but Leicester gradually and impressively recovered the point that their exertions deserved.

The draw keeps them fifth in the Barclays Premier League table, even if that position is likely to be difficult to maintain, and three points ahead of eighth-placed Southampton.

Saido Berahino’s third Premier League goal of the season ensured Sam Allardyce lost his first game as Sunderland boss 1-0 at West Brom.

Berahino scored the only goal of the game on 54 minutes, when he outmuscled giant goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon and tapped the ball into the net from close range.
